Paula Curci is a spoken word artist, radio talk show host and school counselor. Currently, as a radio talk show host, Paula has been hosting and producing “CALLIOPES CORNER – The Place Where Poets and Songwriters Meet” on WRHU.ORG and WRHU 88.7fm Radio Hofstra University. She also produces the informational minute called “What’s The Buzz ®. In the past, she also hosted “What’s The Buzz, ®” a show that aired issues for young adults on WBAU. She is the co-founding member of the Acoustic Poets Network ®, a group of poets who coordinated open mic events in Nassau County and formed a poetry band with the same name.
Paula has produced two spoken word CD’s with the Acoustic Poets Network ® and has published a chapbook, “One Woman’s Cathartic Release in Poetry.” The two APN CD’s are called “Emissary” and ”Bittersweet”. Both CD’s also showcase members of network: Zoe Jade Austin, Tullio Vacchio, Kiki Calafell and Vinne Del Basso. Paula has several of her titles available on I tunes and through various download stores. Both CD’s are available through Amazon.com and CDbaby.com. Her work can also be found on the Vault’s Fear No Art, The POE Project, The Shakespeare’s Project and LIOMA’s music and poetry compilation CD’s. Paula has been published in several anthologies including, but not limited to: “The PPA Literary Review”, The Vaults’ “Soul Fountain”, “Nomad’s Choir”, LunaSeas’ “Hysteria”, the National Association of Poetry Therapists’ “Poet’s Process”, “Whispers and Shouts” and “Writing Outside the Lines”.
Paula has also won several Vault “Fear No Art” awards for her poetry and the Vault’s Guardian Angel award for her contributions to the artist community she serves, where she has facilitated student poetry groups, writers workshops and open mic programs.
In 2014, 2015 and 2017 Paula received Long Island Press Club (LIPC) Broadcast Journalism awards for her radio show, Calliopes Corner. She was awarded in the Local Long Island Arts category for both her Hurricane Sandy victims interview with poet Billy Lamont, her tribute to Walt Whitman broadcast and her interview with Poet Laureate Lorraine Conlin. Her WHAT’S THE BUZZ (R) informational broadcast won an accolade from LIPC in the educational category as well. Paula received kudos for a Health related broadcast on Alzheimer’s and In 2015 Paula also won a GRACIE journalism award for that same special broadcast of Calliopes Corner, on the Female Face of Alzheimer’s. Paula shares the accolade of these awards with Gary Duff, an award winning writer and talk show host and Fran Spencer, host and producer of “A League Of Their Own”, the Women’s show of WRHU. Moreover, Paula was also honored by the March of Dimes with their Golden Apple Award for her 20+ years of service as a school counselor. She is also the 2010 Nassau Counselor Associations’ School Counselor of the Year. Paula currently co- chairs the Nassau Counselor Association’s Counselor, Administrator and Parent Conference (CAP). An annual free conference to all parents, school counselors, administrators and service providers. Her involvement in her community does not stop there. Paula is also an active member of the Nassau County Human Rights Commission’s annual youth conference committee.
